Mission Central
Compassion Child Sponsorship for New Center in Honduras
Date: Ongoing
Summit is partnering with a new Compassion project in Joconales, Honduras. This new center (HO416) is located in a mountainous community near the Guatemala border. The average income for a family in Joconales is only $50 per month. Most families make a living by subsistence farming. Homes are made of adobe (mud) bricks with dirt floors. The vision for Summit is for families interested in this new project to travel together for future mission trips with Compassion International. Janice Cheshire will head up this mission opportunity and work closely with Summit on developing this relationship.

Barb Gorman has been serving in Kaposvar, Hungary, since 2002. She serves in the local hospital there, building relationships with those who are suffering, with the goal of sharing Christ with them. She also serves in a local jail that houses 250 inmates. She teaches English lessons, followed by Bible study and prayer. Barb facilitates several programs there with an 11 member team (including one from Egypt and another from Iraq) who sing, share their testimonies, and share the gospel.
Barb has been asked to mentor and share life with an European Union group that invites high school and college graduates to volunteer and learn about Hungary’s culture. They come from most European Union countries plus Turkey. Most stay for a year. Barb has had the opportunity to share her testimony and the gospel and has given Bibles to them. Most of these young people have no church or religious background outside of Islam.
Barb is also reaching out to international students who come to school in Kaposvar. She invites them over for meals and get-togethers and seeks to show the love of Christ and tell them about her Savior. She stays in touch with them after their visits in her dwelling place.
Please pray for Barb in her calling to Hungary and beyond!
MIFIK Global Mission:
MIFIK (www.mifikmission.org) is led by a former Compassion International child named Michael Kirungi. The mission of this non-profit indigenous ministry is to help at-risk and disadvantaged children to have a promising, Christ-centered future where God will use them to transform Africa and beyond. The master plan for the MIFIK community in Uganda will include a primary school, secondary school, vocational school, sports complex, medical center, and church.
Summit is sponsoring 10 Ugandan children. See their pictures below and read their dreams for the future. A Summit team is going on a short-term trip to Uganda in June, 2018. Contact the church if you are called to go.
Since South Sudan became an independent country in 2011, but political disarray has resulted in some very challenging times. 60% are in dire need of food, and they are experiencing the worst cholera outbreak ever. With a population of approximately 13 million, four million South Sudanese are displaced, and two million have fled the country. Because of internal tribal and community conflict, it’s very difficult to get humanitarian assistance delivered into the country. Eighty-five relief workers have been killed in the last four years. Witchcraft and animism still rule in many places in South Sudan.
Living Water Community Transformation (www.livingwaterct.org) has stepped up in recent years in the community of Akot to assist with Christian school education, agricultural and livestock training, and Pastor and Christian leadership development, including a dynamic women’s ministry focus. Summit has helped financially by providing bicycles for Christian leaders to use to visit people in their communities and has provided a simple church building with a roof so attendees can meet when it rains. We are also leading the training process for pastors and church leaders.
We have a 15 year ongoing partnership in North Africa with indigenous Muslim-background believers who are courageously following Christ. No missionaries are allowed into their area. We try to do annual leadership training with men and women from around their country, and some of them then go into a targeted area for a week to share the gospel, distribute copies of Bibles in their native language, and then plant new home churches. Over the years thousands have turned to Christ and hundreds of new churches have been planted. The leaders then return to their homes where they continue in the work of the Great Commission. Summit provides the expenses for the North Africa leaders to attend the training conference and the evangelistic outreach, provides funding for the Bible distribution, and sends the speaker to the area for the annual leadership training conference. Please pray that God’s Kingdom will continue to spread in this Sharia law country.
Summit has a 6 year partnership with an indigenous ministry that focuses on hundreds of children and Christian leaders. Children are picked up in buses from slum areas and brought to schools where they are fed, their clothes are washed, the children are cleaned, they receive clean clothes to wear for the day, and are educated in Christian schools. Then they are taken home in the afternoon. They also have hostels for orphaned children, where they are loved and cared for 24/7.
In addition, this ministry provides Christian leadership training at the college and seminary level. Many of these students then go into various parts of India to start new churches and to serve in existing churches.
We help support their work financially and try to go every year to love on the children and do Christian leadership training locally and nationally. India will be the most populated country in the world by 2020, and there is a great Christian movement going on.
